Japanese Pushing Flying Boat Designs
Japan’s Shin Meiwa Industry Co. expects to begin development soon of a light amphibian transport that the company has studied as part of its research into a family of flying boats—the largest seating 1,200 passengers. The company, currently the world’s only manufacturer of flying boats, believes that this specialized type of aircraft will become popular because its terminal facilities would be much cheaper than land airports, whose costs are skyrocketing—particularly in Japan.
