The long-known process of electroplating is finding growing use in electro-optical weapons, including high-energy laser optics and missile countermeasures, but has required the development of much improved technology. Precision gold-plated reflectors are used in the Army/Sanders Assoc. ALQ-144 and ALQ-147 countermeasures systems that protect helicopters against infraredhoming missiles (AW&ST Mar. 3, 1980, P189).
