Washington—Air Force expects to award contracts next spring for system definition studies of a deep underground basing alternative to placing MX ballistic missiles in super-hardened silos. The service also is beginning studies on air mobile basing and on placing the new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) in hardened silos.

Bembridge, Isle of Wight—NDN Aircraft, Ltd., anticipates that it will capture 10% of the world market for large agricultural aircraft with its turboprop-powered, tricycle landing gear NDN-6 Fieldmaster. The company, founded and headed by Desmond Norman, a cofounder of the earlier Britten-Norman organization, expects to have the new aircraft certificated within 15 months of first flight, which is planned for mid-November.
