Boeing Flight Testing Two New Aircraft at Same Time to Meet Certification Goal

Seattle—First flight of the 186-passenger Boeing 757 transport will mark the start of a challenging effort to concurrently flight test two new aircraft, both of which the company plans to certify within a five-month period. Boeing is meeting the challenge, which is complicated by a tight timetable and stringent federal requirements, by doubling its flight test organization, redeveloping its flight data management system and conducting an intensive training program to make efficient use of people and equipment.

Naval Air Rework Facility, Pensacola, Fla., has machined replacement main landing gear wye members from bars of Alcoa 7050 aluminum for the Kaman Aerospace SH-2F Lamps Mk. 1 helicopter. The lead time was more than three years less than that promised by the Navy’s vendor for the parts when the Naval Air Systems Command identified the requirement.
