The performance of every main avionic subsystem and sensor on the Boeing 757 and 767 will be monitored continuously in flight, a malfunctioning unit will be disconnected automatically and a report on all malfunctions during the flight will be stored in an on-board central maintenance control display processor (MCDP).

Huntsville, Ala.—Space-suited technicians using Marshall Space Flight Center’s underwater neutral buoyancy simulator are verifying the procedures and hardware that will be used by astronauts working outside the shuttle to service the Space Telescope as the observatory flies 300 mi. above the Earth.
