Washington—The sixth space shuttle mission will combine verification of large new shuttle program elements with deployment of the first Tracking and Data Relay Satellite, a system important for future Space Transportation System operations.

Brussels—North Atlantic Treaty Organization is expected to issue requests for proposals this month for a series of studies to guide spending of as much as $5 billion over the next decade for air command and control systems. Companies interested in bidding for the study contracts said the dollar value of those contracts is rather small, but they believe the firms selected will be able to help shape air command and control system (ACCS) planning and will have a better chance for the multibillion-dollar production contracts that are expected to follow.
