Helicopter Firms Stress Armed Versions

Paris—Continuing doldrums in civil helicopter markets and emerging military requirements for armed assault helicopters were evident in the displays of U.S. and European helicopter manufacturers at this year's Paris air show. Although there were new versions of civil helicopters, including a full-scale mockup of the Bell Helicopter Textron Model 400 TwinRanger and a production version of the Hughes 500E, helicopter industry participation here was dominated by olive-colored equipment that included the U.S. Army/Hughes Helicopters AH64 Apache advanced attack helicopter, armed versions of the Sikorsky Black Hawk and AUH-76, a full-scale mockup of the Westland Lynx 3 antitank helicopter, a scale model of Messerschmitt-Boelkow-Blohm's latest refinement of the PAH-2 assault helicopter for the West German Army, and armed versions of several Agusta helicopters.
