Washington—A realistic appraisal of the speed of two new Japanese supercomputers developed by Fujitsu and Hitachi soon will be made in Japan by U. S. supercomputer specialists using representative problems supplied by the Los Alamos National Laboratory, one of the largest users of supercomputers.

Defense Dept Plans Tight Recoupment Charge Rules

Washington—Defense Dept. is proposing a new rule to improve recoupment of nonrecurring costs on sale of U. S. products and technology commercially or through the foreign military sales program. The new rule calls for recoupment charges to be made whenever the Defense Dept. has incurred $2 million or more of nonrecurring costs in developing an item or technology, unless a written waiver has been obtained from Defense authorities.
