Soviets’ Vega 2 Balloon, Lander Transmit Data From Venus

Los Angeles—Soviet Vega 2 spacecraft successfully deployed a balloon that took measurements in the atmosphere of Venus and a lander that took data both during its descent and on the planet’s surface. The probing of Venus by Vega 2 from June 15-17 came four days after a similar balloon and lander deployment by the Soviet Vega 1 spacecraft (AW&ST June 17, p. 23).
