Building Japan’s Technology Base
Japan’s determination to continue expanding its technology base is nowhere more apparent than in Tsukuba Science City, a relatively new planned community the Japanese government has built about 40 mi. northeast of Tokyo. Tsukuba Science City was established to foster technical developments applicable to “every aspect of life and culture,” and is the culmination of a long-term plan to concentrate the nation’s technical expertise in a single university and research institute complex.
