Who’s in Charge?

The United States is at an historic juncture with its space program and is in critical need of positive action to end the indecision blocking definition of a coherent policy that will reassert the U. S.’s leadership in space. The trouble is, no champion has stepped forward to seize the initiative, and the ensuing confusion leaves even casual observers wondering whether anyone is in charge of setting the nation’s space goals.

U. S.-Built Flight Control System Delays First Flight of Lavi

Ben Gurion Airport, Israel—First flight of the Israel Aircraft Industries Lavi strike fighter will be delayed until mid-September because of technical problems with the U. S.-developed flight control computer. But IAI officials said that the overall development program of the aircraft, which was formally rolled out here last week, is ahead of schedule.
