ESA Delays Development Decision For Hermes Manned Spaceplane

MUNICH The formal go-ahead for Europe’s Hermes program has been delayed by six months to July 1, 1991, but first flight of the spaceplane still is targeted for 1998. The decision to push back the European Space Agency’s approval of Phase 2 full-scale development is due to political and technical considerations, according to Jorg Feustel-Buechl, ESA’s director for space transportation systems.
