WASHINGTON, Los ANGELES Security has been loosened around the $64-billion advanced tactical fighter program to make way for outdoor, daytime engine tests and first flight of prototypes, possibly within 30 days, top Air Force and Defense Dept. officials said.

Ilyushin Group Seeks Partners For Two New Aircraft Programs

HANNOVER The Ilyushin Design Bureau is seeking partners to develop a regional/business transport as well as a four-seat, piston-engine aircraft for primary trainer and general aviation applications. These two new programs, if approved, would broaden Ilyushin’s activity base at a time when the design bureau faces the Soviet Union’s post-perestroika (restructuring) business challenges of the 1990s.

Sikorsky Tests Proof-of-Concept RPV That Uses Coaxial Rotor Technology

STRATFORD, CONN. Sikorsky Aircraft has tested a proof-ofconcept remotely piloted vehicle whose design is based on coaxial rotor technology explored by the company in the early 1970s. The doughnut-shaped, shrouded, coaxially bladed RPV is the first application of the technology in the U. S. since Sikorsky flew the advancing blade concept XH59A helicopter in 1973.

NEW YORK The People’s Republic of China has notified the U. S. Air Force that it will terminate an agreement it had with the service and Grumman Corp. to modernize 57 Shenyang F-8-2 interceptor aircraft for use in the Russo-Sino border areas.
