McDonnell F/a-18e/f Offers Increased Range, Endurance

ST. LOUIS, MO. Design concepts McDonnell Douglas has developed for the proposed F/A18E/F would increase by nearly 40% the aircraft’s range for attack missions and its loiter time on station for fleet air defense. The Navy has requested $435 million in Fiscal 1992 to begin development of the E/F upgrade, which is an outgrowth of the Hornet 2000 program of the late 1980s.

Large-scale Postwar C-130 Airlift Flies British Troops From Gulf Battlefield Zone

LANDING ZONE 05, KUWAIT Thousands of British Army troops are being flown out of the Persian Gulf battlefield area in a large-scale airlift employing Lockheed C-130s operating from semiprepared desert strips. The airlift is using Royal Air Force and Royal New Zealand Air Force aircraft, and is part of the postwar transport program under way to return Operation Desert Storm allied forces to their home countries.

Administration Rallies Support for Station, Responds to Critics

WASHINGTON The Bush Administration is moving quickly to rally congressional support for a smaller, $30-billion space station and to respond to criticisms of the redesign. Last week, as NASA unveiled its new plans for the U. S./international orbital base, Vice President Dan Quayle, Budget Director Richard G. Darman and NASA Administrator Richard H. Truly were on Capitol Hill pressing the case for the scaled-back station.

Navy Seeks 228 More F/a-18c/ds, Rewinging of Additional A-6es

WASHINGTON The Navy has submitted to the Pentagon a revised aviation procurement plan calling for 228 additional F/A18C/Ds and rewinging more A-6E attack aircraft than in the current six-year spending plan. The new plan attempts to pick up the pieces following the disruptions caused by cancellation of the A-12 program in January.
