Senate Endorses New Sdi Plan, Wider Role for Women in Combat

WASHINGTON The Senate approved two provisions during debate on next year’s defense bill that pave the way for sweeping changes in U. S. antimissile research strategy and the future role of women in the military. The actions were taken as the full Senate moved toward passage of a $291-billion defense authorization bill for Fiscal 1992.

International Participation Boosts Air Show Canada

SAN FRANCISCO Organizers of this week’s Airshow Canada are encouraged by a hefty increase in international participation and the expected presence of top-line U. S. and Soviet fighter aircraft and the Canadair Regional Jet. The number of exhibitors booked for the event, scheduled for Aug. 7-11 at Abbotsford, B. C, had reached more than 360 a week before the show, compared with about 200 in the first Airshow Canada in 1989 (AW&ST Aug. 21, 1989, p. 30). More than 60 nations are expected to be represented, compared with 40 in 1989.
