42nd Shuttle Flight Aims for Longer Manned Missions

HOUSTON The Atlantis and five astronauts were preparing late last week to land after deploying a Tracking and Data Relay Satellite and conducting tests aimed at expanding U. S. manned space flight capabilities. Space shuttle Mission 43 was proceeding with only small deviations from the plans made for the flight before the Aug. 2 launch (AW&ST July 22, p. 64).

Mikoyan Design Bureau Defines New Twin-engine Jet Trainer for Soviet Air Force

MOSCOW A new jet trainer for the Soviet air force has been defined by the Mikoyan Design Bureau, which is seeking an international partner to join in the aircraft program. A detailed proposal for the trainer is being presented to the air force, Mikoyan general designer Rotislav A. Belyakov told AVIATION WEEK & SPACE TECHNOLOGY.
