U. S. SETS CONFIGURATION FOR SAUDI F-15XP AIRCRAFT

WASHINGTON The Pentagon has settled on the general configuration of 72 F-15XP aircraft the U. S. intends to sell to Saudi Arabia after consultations with key congressional committees. All 72 aircraft will be based on the twin-seat, F-15E Strike Eagle airframe.

FARNBOROUGH The Russians brought a large number of aircraft—22—and personnel—almost 500—to the Farnborough air show in a bid to market their aerospace products, and the trip was deemed a success by them. A number of agreements were negotiated, concluded or announced at the show, and discussions were begun on many more, officials said.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER The space shuttle team overcame a string of challenges in launching Endeavour on its second mission, carrying Spacelab and a diverse astronaut crew to orbit, just as its launch window opened Sept. 12. The team's ability to overcome obstacles and launch safely and on time is a clear sign, NASA officials said, that with its 50th mission underway, the Space Transportation System is a mature operation.

SHARING AGREEMENT WOULD BE BASIS FOR C-l7 TRANSPORT SALE IN EUROPE

WASHINGTON Based on recent discussions with European defense officials, McDonnell Douglas believes any prospective sale of C-17s in Europe will have to be done on a collective basis, as was the case with Boeing E-3 AWACS aircraft. McDonnell Douglas, looking to export sales to offset cutbacks in the total number of C-17s the U. S. Air Force plans to buy, has found some interest in Europe for the aircraft.
