FOREIGN INVESTMENT IN U. S. FACING STIFFER BARRIERS

NEW YORK Aerospace companies based outside the United States, already subject to strict controls governing foreign direct investment in the U. S., may face even stiffer barriers in the future. The Defense Dept. has been reviewing U. S. security policies and procedures governing foreign ownership, control and influence of domestic aerospace companies.

TARGET DATE SET FOR RESTART OF ATLAS/CENTAUR MISSIONS

WASHINGTON General Dynamics hopes to resume Atlas/Centaur missions in the first half of next year, based on a schedule that would allow flight delays caused by last August's launch accident to be recovered by the end of 1993. Program managers have set late January as the working date for the next mission, although the general goal is to fly within the first or second quarter.

WASHINGTON The Pentagon is taking a phased approach to developing an advanced short take off/vertical landing (ASTOVL) aircraft that would validate propulsion and other key technologies before building and flight testing technology demonstrator aircraft.

NASA HIKES PRICE FOR 'GAS' PAYLOADS

NEW CARROILTON, MD. For the first time since the Challenger accident, NASA is accepting new applications to fly Get Away Specials—the small, self-contained payloads carried in canisters in the space shuttle cargo bay. NASA's announcement that "the queue is open" was welcome news at a shuttle small payloads symposium here last week.
