SENATOR CALLS FOR U. S. TO ABANDON OPEN SKIES
WASHINGTON Calling the U. S. drive for Open Skies a failure, the Senate's top aviation lawmaker is seeking suspension of U. S.-U. K. talks until the Administration and Congress set a new course for international aviation policy. In a strongly worded letter dated Nov. 3, Sen. Wendell H. Ford (D.-Ky.), chairman of the influential Commerce, Science and Transportation aviation subcommittee, urged Transportation Secretary Federico F. Pena to abandon the Open Skies concept of free access to other nations' aviation markets and advised the Clinton Administration to adopt "a real world view" of how international aviation agreements work.
