Payload Blast Prompts NASA to Revise Design Procedures

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER NASA'S space shuttle program is changing its procedures for designing and testing payload systems to eliminate flaws that led one such system to explode in the cargo bay of Discovery last September. The changes come as Discovery undertakes its latest mission.

U. S. to Share Radar Data

WASHINGTON The U. S. will share data informally with Russia about a series of metal spheres to be deployed this week from the space shuttle—information that could be useful to ballistic missile defense systems. One reason the exchange may remain informal, however, is that the Russians may not want to reveal deficiencies of their space surveillance radars.
