NASA Seeks Global Input on Radar Surveys

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER NASA is consulting researchers in Canada, Europe and Japan on how to best build on two successful Earth surveys by a shuttle-borne set of complex, multi-frequency radar instruments. The U.S. space agency has asked the National Academy of Sciences to recommend the next step in developing a spacebased radar monitor of the Earth, now that the Space Radar Laboratory (SRL) has completed the second of two flights on the shuttle Endeavour.

WASHINGTON Three-and-a-half years after coalition forces routed Iraqi troops from Kuwait, U.S. and allied governments are scrambling to devise a strategy to prevent Saddam Hussein from further provocations. The U.S. has committed to deploying 36,000 troops and more than 400 aircraft into the Persian Gulf region in reaction to Iraq's massing of some 71,000 troops, including elite Republican Guard units, along the border with Kuwait.
