The dilemma facing GE executives is whether they should boost the thrust of the GE90 to around 98,000 lb. or go further to 105,000 lb.

SEATTLE A digitally enhanced photo shows a stretched Boeing 777-300 as if in flight. Japan Airlines last week committed to adding five 777-300 stretched models to its existing order for 10 777-200s and 10 options. The adjunct is worth approximately $800 million, according to Boeing.

NASA BOLSTERS SHUTTLE TRACKING

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER NASA engineers and the astronauts of shuttle Mission 73 last week checked out key components for returning Columbia to Earth after its stint of more than two weeks as an orbiting microgravity research laboratory. While the seven astronauts on board Columbia worked around the clock in two shifts supporting that research, engineers at NASA's Mission Control Center in Houston and at its Goddard Space Flight Center tested a new method for getting data on the orbiter's trajectory to ground controllers.
