New Funding Spurs Space Laser Efforts
WASHINGTON A congressional increase in funding for the Space-Based Laser has allowed TRW to resume testing of a high energy chemical laser that was put on hold by the Pentagon two years ago. The Alpha hydrogen-fluoride laser is one of three key components scheduled to be brought together next year as part of a Ballistic Missile Defense Organization (BMDO) effort to demonstrate the viability of high-power, space-based chemical lasers.
