(Signs are appearing that a new debate over the value of incentive-type contracts is impending. Various evaluations are under way in universities. There is an intensive one by Booz Allen & Hamilton, Inc., for NASA, and Defense Dept. Research and Engineering (DDR&E) and the National Security Industrial Assn, also are looking into the subject.

Republic Pares Costs for Comeback Fight

Farmingdale, N. Y.-Republic Aviation Div. of Fairchild Hiller Corp., pruned severely in personnel and facilities over the past 18 months, is primed to try to regain its position among the leaders of the U. S. aerospace industry. Before the beginnings of its takeover by Fairchild Hiller in the spring of 1964, the Republic Aviation Corp. had about 8,000 employes and 2.5 million sq. ft. of facilities under one roof.

Of prime importance is the imminent introduction of forged titanium alloy wheels, which promise up to 10 times the service life (or 200,000 rolling miles) of present forged aluminum wheels in certain applications on an equal weight basis.
