Faa to Begin Testing Advanced Head-up Display

Mountain View, Calif.—Federal Aviation Administration will begin operational flight testing of an advanced head-up display for transport aircraft this summer in an effort to determine the safety contribution such displays can make in large turbine-powered aircraft.

Washington—Abort rate of three out of eight Navy/Sikorsky RH-53 helicopters on the attempted Iranian hostage rescue mission apparently reflects the readiness rate of the aircraft. The mission ended when the number of flyable helicopters was reduced to five, and the question is being raised why at least 10 aircraft were not flown from the deck of the USS Nimitz.
