The Spanish Accident Investigation Commission was informed of the disappearance of the aircraft at 1530 hr. on 25 Apr. 1980. The accident occurred in an uninhabited mountainous zone and in cloud, and it was therefore some hours before the debris was found.

The airlines blamed the continuing fall in traffic on capacity-cutting efforts by the airlines, increasing yields that are cutting into traffic, the general economy and the effects of a threatened air traffic controller strike that finally occurred Aug. 3.
