Major Carriers' Traffic Continues Slump in July
July traffic carried by ten major airlines continued its slump, declining another 6% from already depressed July, 1980, traffic figures (AW&ST Aug. 11, 1980, p. 30). The airlines blamed the continuing fall in traffic on capacity-cutting efforts by the airlines, increasing yields that are cutting into traffic, the general economy and the effects of a threatened air traffic controller strike that finally occurred Aug. 3.
