NASA Managers Will Review Work Needed to Ready Endeavour for Flight

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER NASA managers will meet here Nov. 8 to review the uncompleted work remaining on the Endeavour and determine the agency’s ability to keep the new orbiter on schedule for its maiden flight next April or May. The mission is designed to rescue an Intelsat spacecraft from a useless low orbit.

Swearingen to Build SJ30 Business Jet At New Facilities in Delaware

DOVER, DEL. Swearingen Engineering and Technology will produce, flight test and deliver SJ30 business jets from facilities to be built at the Kent County AeroPark adjacent to Dover AFB. Corporate officials have signed a 30year lease for 50 acres, making Swearingen “the major tenant” at the 115acre new industrial facility, Delaware Insurance Commissioner David N. Levinson said last week.

Congress, White House Weigh Overhaul of Landsat Program

WASHINGTON In an attempt to resolve one of the most difficult and persistent issues in U. S. space policy, a key member of Congress has proposed sweeping changes to the Landsat program. Rep. George E. Brown, Jr. (D.-Calif.) introduced legislation last week that would offer low-cost Earth observation data to nonprofit researchers, expedite construction of a Landsat 7, and direct NASA and the Defense Dept. to jointly manage the remote-sensing satellites.

French Order Launches Production of Canadair Turboprop-Powered Fire-Fighting Aircraft

BOSTON The Canadair Group of Bombardier, Inc., has formally launched production of a turboprop version of its firefighting amphibious aircraft as France ordered 12 of the new aircraft to be named the CL-415. The $300-million (Canadian) contract signed this month allows production of the new CL-415 to begin next year with the first delivery expected to occur in 1994.
